The first thing that strikes me about today’s text is my identity. The most profound and transcendent question that everyone eventually has to deal with is, who am I and why am I here? This verse provides us with the answer. I am the Lord’s Servant. I am a Christ follower and He is my Lord. My purpose is to serve Him in accordance with His Word. The second thing that strikes me is what it means to be consecrated as the Lord’s Servant. It is one thing to proclaim it, but what does it mean to live it. As JD suggests it means saying, as Mary did, “May it be done to me according to your Word” (NASB) when everything in your world seems to be falling apart. Give thanks in everything (all circumstances) for this is the Will of God for you in Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:18). This is the trusting obedience that defines the consecrated life and transcendent (transformational) Faith we have been reading about in this series on First Word, Last Word, God’s Word. Lord may it be so with me!
