I am not sure that I would agree that the central act of the Church is worship. I believe the central act of the Church is discipleship (making disciples of all nations) and that the central act of worship is service (mission). Having said that, the Lord’s Supper is an important act of remembrance, repentance, and re-dedication. How’s that for a three point sermon? In the early days of my journey, the Lord’s Supper (communion) was something we did once a month and on special occasions. It became routine like reciting the Lord’s Prayer or the Apostle’s Creed. I now view the Lord’s Supper as a solemn act of worship that should be done frequently (as oft as you will) and whenever needed to remember who Christ is and what He did for me on the Cross. A time to examine myself and repent of my shortcomings, and a time to rededicate/consecrate myself to a life in Christ.
