First, it is good, but not important to know what an “acrostic” psalm means. These psalms are written using the 22 letters of the Hebrew Alphabet in the first word of each verse. The purpose of an acrostic is to help you memorize or remember something important, but since we don’t read In Hebrew it doesn’t really matter.

What’s important to remember from this text is that, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.” I agree with the author, it is unwise to teach people to not fear the Lord. It is also unwise to not teach people, especially young people, to follow His precepts (general rules to govern thought and behavior). Fear in this sense is awe, wonder, and respect for who He is and what He has done for us. Fear the Lord, but do not be afraid because He loves you and only wants what is best for you.
