I completely resonate with the concept of dissatisfaction with the way things are, Holy discontent, cognitive dissonance or what ever else you want to call. It is the only thing other than a major crisis or significant emotional event that will result in real change. Fear, complacency and/or ambivalence is the enemy of real change. In a spiritual sense, Dissatisfaction coupled with brokenness (humility) results in surrender and submission to God’s Word and Way, and leads us to desire and devotion.

What I find comforting in today’s text and reflection is that this is really “a move of the soul to embrace dissatisfaction instead of fear it.” Most people fear and resist change. They will not change until the pain of remaining where they are is greater than their fear of change. If we embrace spiritual change as a move of the soul toward a glorious eternal outcome it replaces fear with hope and joy.
