I Believe in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, Our Lord
For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
Dwell on this thought: This God, our Father, who created all that is and who took on flesh in the person of Jesus Christ, wants us to know him better. Take the bolded phrase above and form it into your own prayer, “Father, please give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that I may know you better and your Son, Jesus Christ.” Consider that we cannot know God better without God’s help. It is not purely a matter of our choice, but a combination of our willingness and his help. Prayerfully open yourself up to “the Spirit of wisdom and revelation.” Actively welcome the Spirit of wisdom and revelation into your inmost being.
When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.”
