Day 27: Jesus Christ Is Lord
He Descended to the Dead. The Third Day He Arose from the Dead. He Ascended into Heaven and Sits at the Right Hand of God the Father Almighty. From There, He Shall Come to Judge the Living and the Dead
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
/: Jesus, in very nature God, does not grasp at equality with God.
/: Adam, created in the image of God, grasps for equality with God
(i.e., “God knows if you eat this fruit you will be like him”).
/: Jesus makes himself nothing.
/: Adam tries to make himself something.
/: Jesus humbles himself.
/: Adam takes pride in himself.
/: Jesus comes down from heaven to die on a cross.
/: Adam’s race builds a tower from the earth in an attempt to reach
the heavens (see Gen. 11:4).
/: Jesus is given the name that is above every name.
/: Adam’s race attempts to “make a name for themselves.”
/: Jesus is raised from the dead and exalted to the highest place.
/: Adam’s race is destined for death and falls to the lowest place.
/: At the name of Jesus all the nations gather and every tongue will
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
/: Adam’s race is confused in their language and scatters.
/: Are you following Jesus in the humble way of the cross?
/: Are you following Adam in the proud way of making a name for
Take a moment and plot your location on the continuum below. What steps might you take to move further to the right?
Mind of Adam——————————Mind of Christ
He is going to land in force; we do not know when. But we can guess why He is delaying. He wants to give us the chance of joining His side freely . . . I wonder whether people who ask God to interfere openly and directly in our world quite realize what it will be like when He does. When that happens, it is the end of the world. When the author walks on the stage the play is over. God is going to invade, all right: but what is the good of saying you are on His side then? . . . Now, today, this moment, is our chance to choose the right side. God is holding back to give us that chance. It will not last for ever. We must take it or leave it.
