Day 9: The Radiance of God’s Glory

I Believe in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, Our Lord

Hebrews 1:1–4

In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.

Meditate on the word “radiance.” How do you define it? What do you consider as “radiant”? Speak to God, saying, “Jesus, you are the radiance of God’s glory.” To that add, “You are the exact representation of God.” So often people speak in the terms of “Jesus and God,” when in fact, Jesus is God. Roll this phrase around in your mind, “When I see Jesus, I see God.” Finally, speak to God saying, “Jesus, you sustain all things by the power of your word.” Think about how inclusive the term “all” is. One last prayer, “Jesus, my God, you sustain me by the power of your word.” Now write these prayers below in a slow and deliberative fashion.

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great Name we praise.
All laud we would render; O help us to see
’Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee,
And so let Thy glory, Almighty, impart,
Through Christ in His story, Thy Christ to the heart.
