Description

Tracing the historical, scientific, political, religious and cultural trends in relation to the Sexual Revolution, Karen Booth exposes many assumptions, alliances and errors that are rarely considered in the public dialogues and debates over the Methodist church’s stance on homosexuality.

Kinsey research exposed:  Booth presents the fallacies of the research by Dr. Alfred Kinsey in the 1940’s and 1950’s.  This biased research has increasingly been discounted by numerous scientists and scholars.

Kinsey’s “research” helped advance his own attitudes towards sexuality, while completely redefining the Western world’s understanding of sex.  One begins to understand how the Sexual Revolution in the 1960’s found legtimacy in major segments of American society, including the historic mainline denominations.

Deliberate sexual de-programming:  A most disturbing section of Booth’s work traces the activities of Methodist pastors and the Urban Center program in the California/Nevada Annual Conference in 1964.  Different levels of exposure to sexual situations and materials attempted to “free” Methodist clergymen from predjudices or misconceptions about sex and sexuality.

Further degradation of American sex education and neutralization of our sexual ethics occured through information and “conclusions” from these explicit programs.

Pro-gay activism explained:  Confused by the political debate within our church on pro-gay-activism matters? Booth cautions against the consequences of accepting the “middle or third” way in the sexuality debate, which leaves many people concluding that the church “is not of one mind on the issue of homosexualty”.

Booth writes with compassion, humility and the conviction of one well-grounded biblically.  Karen Booth is a United Methodist elder and currently heads the Transforming Congrations ministry within the United Methodist Church.

The book’s title is taken from Jeremiah 8:12: Are they ashamed of their loathsome conduct?  No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush.
