Holy Spirit Moment

For me, the most profound Holy Spirit moments that stay with me are those moments when I don’t listen to Him. About 10 years ago, I met a guy named Pete Haggis. He was in spec ops and did contract work for the CIA. He was also an alcoholic. A bad alcoholic. He would stay at my apartment for a week or two at a time before heading back to Fayetteville for his next assignment. I wouldn’t hear from him for a week or two and then he’d show up at my apartment with bags in hand. He was going to CR with me and I really thought he had turned a corner. One day he told me he needed to have a small mouth procedure and when it was done, he was planning on coming back up. After his surgery I didn’t hear from him all day. I felt the Spirit pleading with me to call him but I didn’t listen. I was too wrapped up in my own world. I didn’t hear from him the next day and called the police. They found him dead on his floor. He had passed out from drinking so much that he fell asleep on his back. He choked to death on his own blood while he was asleep. To this day, I have to live with the knowledge that I didn’t follow the Spirits push. Could I have saved him? I don’t know. What I do know is by NOT following the Spirits guidance, I will never know the answer to that question. It’s a painful reminder for me to listen to the nudgings and ACT upon them.
